Age 86, of Dover, DE, formerly of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, DE.

Born in Bocyrus, Ohio on May 11, 1923 to the late Edwin and Clara Burwell, Richard graduated from high school in 1941 and worked as a drill press operator for Ohio Crankshaft Co. in Cleveland. He served in the Army-Air Force during World War II as an aircraft engine mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1946. Richard worked for Delaware Block Company of New Castle, DE from 1946 until his retirement in 1977. Richard and his wife Irma DiMondi Burwell owned and operated the William Penn Guest House in historic New Castle for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irma DiMondi Burwell of Dover, DE; brother, Glen Burwell and his wife, Norma of Bocyrus, OH; and 19 nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Richards service at Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle on Thursday, September 17, at 1 pm, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in the DiMondi family mausoleum at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peters Church, 521 Harmony Street, New Castle, DE 19720.
